Tuvia Bielski (Daniel Graig), takes cover behind a tree during a confrontation the Jews had with Germans in Lipiczanska forest.

Today I saw a very humanitary and based on a real life story movie called "Defiance" Directed by Edward Zwick. This film is about the life of the Bielski brothers: Tuvia (Daniel Craig), Zus (Liev Schreiber), Asael (Jaime Bell), and Aron (George MacKay).

BACKGROUND INFO
This movie takes place in 1941, when SS death squads, with aid from the local police, captivated Jews, when Germany occupied Belorussia.

Week Two: June 8th - June 14th
Input Activity: Read The News
Evidence: Personal Response

Throughout this week, I've seen some WC matches, the NBA finals and many movies like Prince of Persia, Sherlock Holmes, and other good movies, but I decided to leave movies ofr another occasion and focus Week 2 summer work in other activity. I decided to go to CNN News and found a news article about a country who made it to South Africa '10 after having 44 years of not qualifying to the WC: North Korea. When I read this article I've realized that North Korea can make a surprise to anyone in their Group, it is recognized as "The Group of Death" where Brazil, Portugal, and the Ivory Coast are. We think North Korea will not make it to the second round, but who knows what can happen when it comes to soccer. North Korea defeated Italy in 1966 WC, and something similar can happen again. Recently talks about North Korea's preparation to the WC, in which they have been in many countries in which they trained and had friendly matches and improved teamwork.

I like this CNN article because it shows how North Korea has been recently relating to the WC and also I liked when they say that they are in the WC because the nation's leader, Kim Jong Il, has been giving funds to the team since he is very interested in this sport. W

hat I did no liked was that the North Korean coach said that both Korean nations can unite again, since it is the first time both are in a WC. I don't like it much because if this happens, practically all the Korean squad would be made up of South Koreans, since they are way better than North Koreans in soccer. If we analyze well between North Korea's group and Honduras's group, I rather say that Honduras is in a much comfortable group, with Chile, Switzerland, and Spain. The reason is that Spain left doubt in the Confederations Cup when they blundered against the U.S. losing 2-0. Switzerland has been evolving these past years, but they lost in home 1-2 against Luxembourg, and that really is an anathema that any European country would really despise adn be really upset, since they are not any good in soccer. A greek buddy that I have told me that Honduras has good players, reffering to the ones who are in Europe. He says that they can beat Chile. However, these teams have cohesiveness, and Honduras needs to improve it. In the other hand, Korea has the 5-time WC champion Brazil, a Portugal that recently is not in its good shape but still has top players like Simao, C. Ronaldo and Almeida, and a fierce Ivory Coast who has many exceptional players, and probably the best of all Africa.

Week Three: June 15 - June 21
Input Activity: Watch A Movie/Play
Evidence: Personal Response

June 21, 2010
the-blind-side.jpgDuring this week I saw the movie called "The Blind Side", a 2009 film starring actors Quinton Aaron and Sandra Bullock. This movie is about a guy named Michael Oher who had a hard childhood with his family. He had talent playing football at being a defensive maul. During a cold night, Michael was heading for the gym to stay there because it is warm, when suddenly Leigh Tuohy asks him to stay in her house. Michael then became part of the Tuohys and in the end the NFL Draft puts him in the Baltimore Ravens team.

I like this movie because Michael got a fortuitous opportunity to have a chance to succeed and have a better life. Also his improvements he got from time to time in in his school, acheiving a GPA of 2.52 in the end. What I didn't like was the accident Michael and SJ had, but none of them got a serious injury that could affected them much.

In the end, what I rescue about this movie is Michael's experience of protective instincts and how Mrs. Tuohy reminds him in a football practice to do the same thing with his buddies during a game and defending them from their adversaries.

Week Four: June 22 - June 28
Input Activity: Watch A Movie/Play

the-box.jpgYesterday I saw a movie with my cousins called "The Box", a 2009 film starring actress Cameron Diaz. The movie has a simple plot, it is about a family which got a "box" from a man who had burnt his face before. The box has a button at the top, and the man says to them that if you push the button, you will get $1,000,000 and someone around the world will die. This is were I stop telling because you should see it and see what happens.

What I liked about the movie was only about getting a million dollars just by pushing a button, which is pretty strange offer in my opinion, until I saw what happen to them. What I didn't like was their fate, especially what they did to their son and it made me sick of what the man said to them in order to bring their son back to normality, right after they made the boy have handicaps.

If they would gave me that box, I wouldn't push the button, and immediately go to live to another place because they would still bother and made me have an awful destiny. Pressing that button just release doom instead of happiness.

Week Five: June 29 - July 5
Input Activiy: Watch A Movie/Play
Evidence: Personal Response

This week I´ve been really far from the internet, since I was in an area where only lots of trees around, a lake for water skiing, and a huge property where I stayed were the only things that caught my attention. Since I just arrive back today, I couldn´t post this on time.

Luckily, my friends had movies so I can do the activity. They many movies I had seen, and many I have not seen. But there was one that I didn´t see and I was really anxious to see it, since I saw its previous films.

HP.jpg"The Half-Blood Prince" is really an interesting movie. This year in Hogwarts is really a dagnerous one (in all movies they say it everytime though and you get kind of overwhelmed). What I liked about this movie was the romance is played well, and also the effects. What I didn´t liked about it was that I knew two things that would happen in this movie since I was twelve: 1. Snape is the Half-Blood Prince, 2. Dumbledore dies. Also I didn´t like the scene of Aragog's body. It was a bit digusting. I recommend this if you haven´t seen it and recommend more the next one that´s coming this November (Part 1). Part 2 will be released until 2011.

Week Six: July 6 - July 12

Movie's Cover. Alistair Little (right) and Joe Griffin (Left)

Yesterday I saw a film that I wanted to see because its name is eye-catching and draw my attention to it. "Five Minutes of Heaven" is an fiction inspired film from two men who bear a legacy of one of the estimated 3720 people who died during the Northern Ireland conflict. Starring actors Liam Neeson as Alistair Little and James Nesbitt as Joe Griffin. The main setting is Lurgan, Northern Ireland.

The movie is about the meeting of Alistair and Joe Griffin, as 33 years have passed since Alistair (being masked) killed Joe´s brother, Jim Griffin. Joe Griffin saw the horrible scene, and his family blamed him for his death during those 33 years. Now, Joe Griffin wants to kill him since he really wants to avenge his brother´s death and have his "Five Minutes of Heaven" for it before getting caught. I really recommend this movie if you want to see what happens then. I like it all, and shows a bit of the conflict held in Northern Ireland at the 70's. Really nothing I disliked about the movie. It reminds me when Ms. Roundy taught us about the conflict and the movie we saw called "An Everlasting Piece," which involved the Northern Ireland conflict.

Week Seven: July 13 - July 19

legion_poster.jpg
During that week I saw a movie called "Legion" which is about a human extermination God sent because humanity wasn't behaving as he wanted. The main characters gather in a gas station and there comes Michael, an angel who disobeyed God´s order to exterminate humanity, and says to them that Charlie's baby will be the salvation of mankind. I liked this movie because part of it looks like if it was going to happen in the Apocalypse. What I didn´t like was the old lady, who was a monster in fact and was a bit sick. I recommend this movie if you like suspense.

pariswithlove.jpg

During the last week of this summer work, I was interested to see a movie called "From Paris With Love", starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Travolta. It is about two guys, Reese and Wax, which Reese wants a promotion from his agent status he is, and he gets assigned to work with Charlie Wax. There is a lot of action and stunts and I like how is it performed. Favorite part was when they throw explosives from a top floor to a getaway car and when Wax makes Reese's car "Ka-boom" because he was babbling that the cops will see his papers he had there. What I did not like was the final part about Reese and her fianceé Caroline, who tried to detonate explosives during an Africa-Summit meeting. I recommend you to see it.
